I am sure that I'm not the only one in the know. I am also sure that not everyone may be aware  that the Dragon Ball Super Card Game was not exactly a new game, even back when Galactic Battle first launched.

The DBS CCG is based on an older japanese-only card game where each card had some sort of chip inside (sort of like Dragon Ball Heroes, if your familiar, though not exactly). The purpose of the chip was to allow the use of your real cards with an App that you could battle friends all over Japan, not just those sitting across from you at a table, though the game could obviously still be played that way if preferable. Oddly enough, if you search through Youtube - allow me to save you the trouble - you can find videos of people playing the game on this app and it looks nearly identical to what we got in the DBS CCG Tutorial App. The game obviously evolved into what we currently know as the Dragon Ball Super Card Game, though many things have changed in the newest iteration. Extra Cards, for example, were almost completely non-existent and were only released during the games latest set, Series 5.

That's not all that's changed however. Though the newer game has noticeably changed some Battle Cards into Extra Cards in the newer version, most Battle Cards, themselves, have had their Energy Color changed.

If your not already privy to the information, I urge you to check out their website here. Specifically, the Card List section where you will find hundreds of almost exactly identical cards that are currently in the DBS CCG. However, you would also find an equal number of cards that haven't been released yet or have been changed entirely. One such example is the Broly Leader card that we have all seen at this point, I'm sure. Well, in the modern game the artwork that's on each side of the card was actually taken from two entirely different Leader cards in the original version. The base form actually Awakens into Super Saiyan 4 Broly!!! The Awakened side of the modern Broly Leader card was actually his Unawakened state in the original game and he Awakened into SS3 Broly...

Either way, even if they never actually re-release every one of these cards, I figured it'd be nice to have a database of sorts keeping track of this sort of thing and to theorize on how they could re-implement them into the modern iteration of the game. Granted, a large number of these cards are just plain ol' vanilla cards but they will be included in this list anyway. Since they have changed plenty already, it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility that they could do so with them as well. At some point in the future, I will likely attempt to theory-craft set idea's based on some of the cards and make changes when warranted or when it feels necessary but I'll save that for later posts.

Unused iC Carddass Asset's

Below is a list of all of the card's released during the games original run that have yet to be implemented in one way or another. I won't be labeling Battle Cards because the majority of them are battle cards, but Leaders and Extra Cards will be noted. Lastly, If I missed anything, feel free to call me out.

Notes: Card's with a strike through them have been added into the game after this post had initially been made. If any changes were made, they will be notated after a '*'.

So, the first order of business is to round up this huge jumbled mess of text into several clusters of information. Based on what we already know of the game and where it stands after having several sets reinterpretted (as well as entirely new additions), we can safely make several assumptions when trying to "translate" some of these remaining cards into the current iteration of the card game.

The first thing I would like to do is do group them into several themes to look at the over-arching engine within the old game and translate them into how they would fit into the current meta.

The first ones I plan on tackling are the Gogeta and Jenemba engines of Series 5. However, this post is just to serve as a referance to future posts. This list may change at any time though I will always ensure to list updates as they occur. An update may occur when information on the new DBS expansion Series 4 (tentatively titled Colossal Warfare) releases, as the set may or may not feature some of the card's listed here.

MAJOR THEMES LEFT ENTIRELY UNTOUCHED

Gogeta
Jenemba
Bojack
Otherworld

MINOR THEMES LEFT ENTIRELY UNTOUCHED

Saiyan Saga
Abo and Kado
Special

ADDITIONS TO ALREADY EXISTING THEMES

Chilled
Cooler
Androids/Cell
Babidi
Majin Buu
Battle of Gods
Ressurection F
Champa
Future Trunks

BT5-17 Lightning Fast Guardian Pikkon (Jenemba)
BT5-018 The Most Powerful Fusion (EXTRA, Jenemba)

THEME

To view the original card text, please refer to the ic Carddass website.

When viewing all of these cards side-by-side, you get a picture of how Gogeta was meant to be played. The Extra Card, "The Most Powerful Fusion," add's Goku and Vegeta cards that have already been discarded BACK into your deck. Being able to replenish your deck in any way is an awesome idea that can stall certain discard mechanic decks, and it also adds perfect synergy with cards like BT5-003 "Soaring Super Warrior, SS Gogeta" and the Gogeta Leader Card, which both have multiple skills that allow you look into your deck for those Goku and Vegeta cards which result in varying effects that can stir the game up rather quickly. Another skill that this theme takes advantage of is the mechanic [Surge]. In the original game, [Surge] meant that after the card was played from your hand as a Combo, the card is automatically played in the Battle Area after the attack was concluded. In the current DBS TCG there is another card that already has a similar effect (BT2-010 Double Shot SS2 Vegeta) though his ability is listed as [Auto] and it only triggers if your Leader is red.

You will see this [Surge] mechanic on many cards within the engine. Typically, they similar to the ability on Double Shot SS2 Vegeta, though they are played immediately in Active Mode. The downside being that they usually have some additional energy cost while comboing.

GOGETA-001

BT5-001.png

Leader: Super Saiyan Gogeta
Color: Red
Power: 10,000
Character: Gogeta
Special Trait: Saiyan
Era: Jenemba Saga
Series: ?
Rarity: ?
Skills:
[Activate: Main]
Draw one card. This card get's +5000 Power until the end of your opponents next turn.
[Auto] Whenever this card attacks, look at up to 2 cards from the top of your deck. Choose up to 1 <Son Goku> or <Vegeta> and add it to your hand. Then, return any remaining cards to the bottom of the deck in whichever order you wish.
[Awaken] When your life is at 2 or less, you may draw 2 cards and flip this card over.

BT5-001-B.png

Awakened Side: Evil-Thwarting Warrior, Super Saiyan Gogeta
Power: 20,000
Skill:
[Auto]
When this card attacks, draw one card, and if the card is either <Son Goku> or <Vegeta>, this card gains +5000 Power for the duration of the turn.
[Auto] [Once per Turn] You may place one <Vegeta> card from your hand into the Drop Area. If you do, this card gains [Double Strike] for the duration of the turn.
[Auto] Once per Turn] You may place one <Son Goku> card from your hand into the Drop Area. If you do, this card gains +10,000 Power for the duration of the turn.

Notes:
*The wording of the [Activate: Main] ability was changed so that it was more of defensive move while building your hand. In the current rules, the fact that this card would be Rested after activating the ability, made the +5000 Power pointless on your turn.
*Slightly altered his Awakened side's basic [Auto] ability. On the original, the +5000 was every turn regardless of the draw. Changed for additional theme synergy and deck building strategies.

GOGETA-002

BT5-003.png

Battle Card: Sparking Super Warrior, SS Gogeta
Color: Red
Cost: 7 (w/ 2 Red)
Power: 25,000
Combo: (1) +10,000
Character: Gogeta
Special Trait: Saiyan
Era: Jenemba Saga
Series: ?
Rarity: ?
Skills:
[Union-Fusion: 5 w/ 2 Red]
<Son Goku> and <Vegeta> (Place 1 each of the specified card with the same power from your hand into your Drop Area and play this card)
[Auto] When this card attacks a Battle Card, look at up to three cards from the top of your deck. If any of the cards are <Son Goku>, this card gains 10,000 Power and [Critical] for the duration of the turn. If any of the cards are <Vegeta>, this card gains [Triple Attack: Twice per turn, when this card attacks, switch this card to Active Mode after the battle] for the duration of the turn. Shuffle the cards back into the deck afterward.
[Auto] [Once per Turn] When your opponent's card attacks, if your leader card is <Gogeta>, you may place 1 card from your hand in the Drop Area. If you do so, negate that attack and any skills associated with that attack.

Notes:
*Changed name from Soaring Super Warrior, SS Gogeta to Sparking Super Warrior, SS Gogeta simply because it sounds better, with "Sparking" being a reference to the original theme song as well.
*Raised card cost from 5 to 7 (with 2 red required) for balance reasons. May not be perfect but this is based on cards with similar abilities and the way that they were re-imagined in the DBS card game from their original inception. Considered making it an 8 cost due to Triple Attack's strength, but since it really up to RNG, I figured it'd be interesting to gamble with a turn earlier.
*Added Union-Fusion Ability for alternative play methods.
*Modified it's Attack skill ability. Originally it had you discarding three cards and if one was a Goku or a Vegeta, it would produce similar effects. It was changed to "Look at up to 3 cards" so that you don't burn through your deck too quickly in longer games. I will, however, still feature an ability almost exactly like the original on another card in the Gogeta Engine.
*Altered the [Impenetrable Defense] ability of the original card. Made ability worded more similarly to how this ability was reworked on "BT2-056 Zamasu, The Alert God."

GOGETA-003

BT5-004.png

Battle Card: Golden Counterattack, Super Saiyan 3 Son Goku
Color: Red
Cost: 6
Power: 20,000
Combo: (2) +0
Character: Son Goku
Special Trait: Saiyan
Era: Jenemba Saga
Series: ?
Rarity: ?
Skills:
[Super Combo] (You can only include up to 4 cards with [Super Combo] in your deck)
[Auto] When you Combo with this card, if your Leader Card is red and your life is 4 or lower, draw 1 card and add +10,000 to this card's combo for the duration of the turn.
[Surge] (At the end of the battle, after you combo with this card from your hand, if your Leader Card is <Gogeta>, play this card in Active Mode)

Notes:
*Virtually untouched. Added Super Combo text because that's essentially what it is, but with a new twist with the added Surge mechanic.
*After reviewing the power that this potential Super Combo could have, considering he's basically a free play afterwards, I decided to raise the Combo Cost to 2 for balance's sake.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GOGETA-004

BT5-005.png

Battle Card: Unending Fury, Super Saiyan Son Goku
Color: Red
Cost: 3
Power: 20,000
Combo: (1) +5,000
Character: Son Goku
Special Trait: Saiyan
Era: Jenemba Saga
Series: ?
Rarity: ?
Skills:
[Surge] (At the end of the battle, after you combo with this card from your hand, if your Leader Card is <Gogeta>, play this card in Active Mode)
[Permanent] When your opponent has Battle Cards in their Battle Area and you have no Battle Cards in your Battle Area, you can play this card from your hand without paying its energy cost.

Notes:
*Original card was Vanilla... but that's no fun. Given the fact that Goku is technically dead at the time of Fusion Reborn, I gave the card a new title: Unending Fury. And playing off of that title, I added the [Surge] ability featured in the Gogeta engine, and an exact copy of the ability on "BT3-015 Bodyguard Ledgic." Given the [Surge] ability, the cost of the Combo for such a minor Power increase is justified.
