Official Set 5 Perfection Discussion - Preview/Information Thread

Recommended Posts

Well, since we are just over 5 weeks away from Perfection, let's start this.  Once previews begin on the site, I'll open this up for discussion.  For now, here's what we know.

Set 5 - Perfection

Set Symbol - ???

Release: 2/26/16

Packaging:

Booster box - 24 packs per display (12 displays per case) + 1 HT Cell level box topper

Booster Packs:

12 cards per pack

- 1 rare per pack

- 1 UR per 48 packs

- 1 foil per 8 packs

- new "Dragon Rare" rarity levels of Cell per ?? packs

New MPs:

Cell

Android 16

Yamcha

Master Roshi

Details:

- 142 new cards

- One UR was designed by Gencon Qualifier winner Phil McGrath

- New Named cards for "legacy" characters plus more Android cards

- A16's ability apparently "ignores the rules of the game on a fundamental level".  Judging by the previous clue "A16, but is he a hero or villain" from the original set announcement, which was followed sentences later by "There will be 2 new heroes in Perfection" it can be assumed A16 will somehow get to use both villain and hero only cards in some fashion.

- It was hinted that we may get Earth DBs this set (not confirmed) Based on numbering and reveals spoilers, there is no room for Earth Dragon Balls in this set

- Cell has a named card that can advance him 2 levels.

- Roshi will have a defense power on lvl 1

IT BEGINS!

Cell looks amazing and ultimately i don't expect a play set to cost more than a box, it's fine to have rare cards but he's going to be easier to get and cheaper than a play set of spheres, or a single sphere.

I'm itching to try him in new black, new red and new saiyan, here's hoping all of the above get a lot of needed support this set too, new colored cards are probably what im most excited for.

Hopefully this "Clash of Wills" is Aura Clash from old Z. Both players gain 6 anger Event. You cannot win by MPPV.

Given what this game is turning into, I think that would be a horrible card for the meta-game.  Maybe if it were Hero's Only.  At least that way Gohan and Trunks get better without breaker Cell even more.

I'm curious about Cell's Draining Attack. Since it doesn't specify where you banish these 5 allies from, can you banish from essentially anywhere except your opponents hand or deck? Can you just banish them from anywhere? Hand, deck, in-play and discard pile?

There are two ways to interpret it.  We can figure that if a card doesn't specify where the card being banished is from, that implies it must be in play.  Or, we can interpret it that any ally that is in a public zone (play, discard, banished) would be open to be banished since an ally in the discard pile is still referred to as an ally and not an ally card (Overpowering Attack).

It's the same with any card that targets allies as an immediate effect; allies can only be targeted by effects if they are in play. Otherwise, the card would tell you to "search" your opponent's hand, life deck, discard, etc.

Neat. I'm "meh" on Overwhelming Power, but the other three are pretty awesome. Tri-Beam is kinda like another Prep, Trunks might actually be good with that drill, and Playful Punch certainly has applications.

Overwhelming power is ridiculous with cell. With restored mastery putting it into your hand too.

Tri beam looks fun, but that's a lot to destroy off your own deck. Hopefully we'll get more black destroy effect cards.

Hopefully trunks gets a new sword named attack, so sword decks can be a thing again.

I like playful punch. Seems great for wheelo and a few others. Hope it's not too powerful with roshi and yamcha.

Tenshinhan's Tri-Beam: Solid Named card, though without modifiers you're netting at most 2 life cards against your opponent. Hitting your opponent with six in a row will be pretty funny to watch.

Overwhelming Power: Obvious synergies aside, I think this card will find a home in every physical aggro deck regardless of MP. Knocking your opponent down to a lower level shouldn't be hard to do.

Aggressive Sword Drill: I never played with or against a Sword deck in old Z but depending on what support cards they make, I think this will be another staple in aggro decks of all kinds just for the tutor ability.

Playful Punch: Looks like a cute card but who would want to run this besides Ginyu against Cell?
